After 38 years, my good ol' Pearl drum throne, particularly the seat, felt like its time had finally passed. Oddly, within a couple of days and without even starting any research, a Gibraltar promo email arrived advertising their various drum thrones. Hmmmm...
After looking through the various offerings, the Gibraltar 9608NR 9000 Series 13.75" Neo Round Drum Throne looked to be the throne for me. It was a solid choice.
The seat is very comfortable, and though it does feel kinda spongy, it's got good support overall. Unlike my old Pearl's seat, this one doesn't develop what feel like hot-spots. I can play and not even be aware of the seat now, and repositioning due to those aforementioned hot-spots happens a lot less often.
The support structure is very solid; it feels like it would last 38 years without a problem. The height adjustment is solid, and the 'memory lock' system works really well. I haven't had any issues with the stem twisting down like I had with my old Pearl throne. The oversized feet keep the throne stable and in place, so no more creeping, even on smooth surfaces, while you're playing.
In short, this is a really good choice of drum throne if you're in need of a replacement.
